2021 Upgrade of CPHQ Tutor

With implementation of technologies to serve the modern-day CPHQ candidate, CPHQ Tutor has received the biggest upgrade in its 12-year history.

Regular visitors would have no doubt noticed the site has undergone a facelift.

Accompanying the change in aesthetics and functionality is a renewed focus on how the content will best enable the CPHQ candidate succeed in 2021/2022. Here are some ideas we are considering for 2022:

  • Instructional videos
  • Live streaming sessions to discuss specific topics and/or questions
  • Short structured programs to address problematic areas
  • “Back to Basics” lessons
  • Competitions, e.g. highest points scorer in the week/month/quarter/year

With such ambitions, we needed to upgrade the software that support this site. We believe the software we have installed in the past few months are the best in their class – they certainly have performed well during beta testing.

We had to overcome two major challenges:

  1. Migrating a huge database between servers quickly and securely.
  2. Limiting disruption of the service to our existing members.

Transfer of the database was relatively straightforward. What remains to be seen is how our members will be immediately affected by the transition.

In the early hours of December 30, 2021, we will transfer the site to a more powerful server. Unfortunately, this will entail some downtime due to DNS propagation – this process may take up to a few hours. We have done and will do our best to minimize any downtime.

What Existing Members Can Expect (Immediate Term)

If you are a member (paid subscriber), you should be able to access the content that you had previously accessed. You should also be able to access new scheduled content (as before). You can expect improved usability of the site. One important caveat is that the “Mark Complete” feature of the new site requires users to mark all content in one module as being completed before they are allowed to access content in a future module. (Reminder: One module = the content of one month’s subscription.)

Members also need to change/update their password when they first access the content of the new site. An update of your password will only be required once. We will do our utmost to limit the inconvenience caused by this process.

We have updated some content and fixed broken links. However, there may still be some outstanding issues with respect to broken links, typos, etc. – we will resolve these as quickly as possible. Please give us a few days (and up to a week) to complete this task.

What Non-Members Can Expect (Immediate Term)

We have not made any products/plans available to persons who are not currently subscribed to CPHQ Tutor. New products will be rolled out from the second or third week of January 2022.

We kept the temporary blog running. Doing so allowed us to update the posts in the backend while still keeping their current versions available to the general public. (Update January 6, 2022: All articles from the temporary blog have been transferred to the CPHQ Tutor blog.)
